Symbiosexuality: A New Attraction Concept That’s Gaining Attention

In the world of sexual orientations, terms like homosexuality, bisexuality, and heterosexuality are widely understood. But have you heard of symbiosexuality? It’s a new concept that’s gaining attention, especially in foreign countries, and it brings a fresh perspective to human attraction.

    What is Symbiosexuality?

Unlike traditional forms of attraction where a person is drawn to another individual, symbiosexuality involves a different kind of pull. People who identify as symbiosexual are not necessarily attracted to a single person. Instead, they feel an emotional, physical, and even sexual attraction to a couple that’s already in love. Simply put, they derive satisfaction or energy by witnessing the love between two people and may even wish to be a part of that relationship.

This type of attraction may sound strange or unfamiliar, especially in cultures like India where monogamous relationships are the norm. However, it’s a legitimate form of attraction that some people are beginning to identify with.

    How Was Symbiosexuality Discovered?

The term symbiosexuality was coined through a recent study conducted by researchers at Seattle University in the United States. Led by Dr. Sally Johnson, the findings were published in the Archives of Human Behaviour, highlighting the existence of this unique orientation. The research sheds light on a form of sexuality that was previously unexplored, bringing this lesser-known concept into public awareness.

    What Does the Study Say?

The study describes symbiosexuality as an attraction to the love shared between two individuals rather than a single person. Those who identify with this form of attraction might not experience jealousy and can even be extroverted, empathetic, and deeply caring. It is suggested that any gender or age group could identify with symbiosexuality, as it transcends traditional boundaries of sexuality and attraction.

    Challenges of Symbiosexuality

While the discovery of symbiosexuality is intriguing, it’s not without its challenges. Because this is a relatively new concept, those who experience these feelings may find it difficult to understand or express them. Moreover, forming a relationship with a couple presents complexities that are not typically encountered in one-on-one relationships.
