Bishnoi Community May Forgive Salman Khan if He Apologizes, Says Leader

Jodhpur: The blackbuck poaching case from 1998, involving actor Salman Khan and other film stars, is still under legal scrutiny, but now the Bishnoi community may offer a path of forgiveness. The All India Bishnoi Mahasabha’s National President, Devendra Budia, has hinted that if Salman Khan acknowledges his mistake and apologizes, the community could consider pardoning him.

    A Potential Act of Mercy

During the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain in Jodhpur, Salman Khan and others allegedly hunted two blackbucks, an incident that has sparked outrage for decades. However, Budia recently suggested that under the Bishnoi community’s code of conduct, wrongdoers can be forgiven. He referred to the tenth rule out of the 29 rules that the community follows, stating that there is room for compassion and forgiveness if one shows remorse for their actions.

“If Salman Khan confesses his mistake and shows genuine remorse, the community can come together and discuss whether to forgive him,” Budia said. “This decision will involve the elders and respected members of the community.”

    The Incident That Sparked Controversy

The blackbuck poaching case dates back to October 1998, when locals from Kankani village near Jodhpur heard gunshots late in the night. Upon investigation, villagers found two blackbucks, a species protected under Indian law, dead from gunshot wounds. The villagers reported seeing a vehicle fleeing the scene, which was later linked to the stars of Hum Saath Saath Hain, including Salman Khan.

The case has dragged on for more than two decades, with Salman Khan facing legal battles and court hearings regarding his involvement. An FIR was filed against him, and he was later sentenced to five years in prison, although he has since been granted bail.

Bishnoi Community’s 29 Rules: A Code of Discipline and Harmony

The Bishnoi community is known for its deep connection to nature and its strict code of conduct. Their 29 rules, established by their spiritual leader Lord Jambheshwar, emphasize harmony, non-violence, and respect for all living beings. These rules guide every aspect of life within the community, from personal habits to social responsibilities. Some of these include:

    • Practicing cleanliness and maintaining purity.
    • Upholding humility, contentment, and chastity.
    • Avoiding lies, theft, and unnecessary arguments.
    • Observing kindness towards all living creatures.
    • Avoiding the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and meat.
    • Protecting trees and other natural resources.

One of the significant rules includes the practice of forgiveness, which Devendra Budia highlighted when discussing Salman Khan’s case. “Our society is built on principles of mercy and tolerance. If there is a genuine feeling of forgiveness, the community can show compassion, as per our spiritual guidelines,” Budia remarked.

The Way Forward: Will Salman Apologize?

Despite the legal complexities, the Bishnoi community’s willingness to forgive may offer a new chapter in the long-standing case. If Salman Khan chooses to apologize and express genuine remorse for his actions, the Bishnoi elders could consider closing this painful chapter. However, the final decision rests with the community leaders and how they interpret the actor’s approach.

The blackbuck case has not only sparked legal battles but has also become a significant symbol for wildlife protection in India. For many, it is more than just a case of hunting; it represents the ongoing struggle to preserve nature and respect the sanctity of wildlife. How the Bishnoi community and Salman Khan navigate this path of forgiveness could set a new precedent in the case.
