How Bobby Deol Became ‘Lord Bobby’ Thanks to Viral Memes

Bobby Deol, once a familiar face in Bollywood, has seen a remarkable resurgence in recent years. With upcoming films like Animal and Alpha, Bobby is making waves not just in Hindi cinema but also in the South Indian film industry. However, his comeback began not with a film but with a viral internet meme that gave him a whole new identity – “Lord Bobby.”

The Start of Bobby’s Online Fame During the India-Australia Series

It all started during the 2021 India-Australia Test series when Team India secured a historic victory despite being riddled with injuries. Amid the celebrations, a still from Bobby Deol’s movie Soldier went viral. The image showed him with a fake broken arm, holding a gun, and fans humorously compared India’s injured team to Bobby’s iconic scene, suggesting that Australia underestimated India, much like Bobby’s deceptive appearance in the film.

How Pakistani Fans Turned Bobby into ‘Lord Bobby’

Shortly after, Bobby’s memes spread like wildfire on social media. A Pakistani Twitter (now X) account, named “Bobbywood,” played a major role in making him a meme sensation. The account started posting hilarious clips from his old movies, recontextualizing them to fit modern situations, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the most memorable viral clips included:

    • A scene from Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, where Bobby is seen swabbing Aishwarya Rai’s name – which people humorously linked to COVID-19 testing.
    • Another from Dillagi, where Bobby tells Sunny Deol to stay away from him, which was interpreted as a humorous take on social distancing.

These memes struck a chord with fans and gave rise to the moniker “Lord Bobby.” The internet celebrated Bobby as someone who “knew” about the pandemic long before it happened, thanks to these movie scenes.

Bobby Deol’s Journey to Stardom Once Again

While Bobby Deol’s acting skills had already established him as a Bollywood star, this internet popularity added an extra layer to his fame. It wasn’t long before filmmakers noticed his revived presence, and Bobby was cast in major projects. Today, Bobby is in high demand, with big-budget films lined up in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema. The transformation from Bobby Deol, the actor, to “Lord Bobby,” the meme king, has certainly added a quirky yet interesting chapter to his career.
