A controversy has erupted between South Indian stars Nayanthara and Dhanush regarding the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. The documentary, based on the personal and professional life of the “Lady Superstar,” has become the center of a legal battle. Dhanush has filed a ₹10 crore copyright case against the makers for allegedly using a 3-second clip from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
In response, Nayanthara took to Instagram to express her anger and disappointment, revealing behind-the-scenes details about the ongoing dispute.
Nayanthara’s Open Letter to Dhanush
On Saturday, Nayanthara shared a statement on her social media, shedding light on the issue. She explained that her team had sought Dhanush’s permission to use clips and behind-the-scenes footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan for the Netflix documentary. However, the actor refused to grant them the necessary permissions, despite repeated requests spanning over two years.
Nayanthara stated, “After two years of waiting for the NOC and re-editing the documentary multiple times, we released the current version without including any of the requested scenes.” She further added that the clips used were not official footage but were captured on mobile phones by crew members.
Nayanthara Questions Dhanush’s Intentions
Nayanthara did not hold back in criticizing Dhanush’s actions, calling them a “low point” and accusing him of acting out of vengeance. She questioned his moral stance, saying, “Your refusal may hold ground legally, but there’s also a moral responsibility that you have ignored.”
The actress also accused Dhanush of portraying an image that doesn’t align with his actions. “You speak about values and humility on public platforms, but your behavior in this case tells a different story,” she wrote.
Legal Battle Ahead
In her letter, Nayanthara confirmed receiving a legal notice from Dhanush and stated that she would respond through appropriate legal channels. She expressed disappointment in how the matter unfolded, emphasizing that it could have been handled differently.
Meanwhile, Dhanush has yet to comment on the allegations made by Nayanthara in her open letter.
