When Tamil cinema’s iconic superstar, Rajinikanth, was asked about his thoughts on the Hema Committee report, his response was unexpected. Despite being a veteran in the Indian film industry with extensive experience across multiple languages, including Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, and Hindi, Rajinikanth appeared to be unaware of the Hema Committee’s findings.

On Sunday, Rajinikanth was spotted at Chennai airport, where he was engaged in conversation with the paparazzi. As a journalist approached him with questions about his upcoming film “Coolie” and other industry-related issues, Rajinikanth was more than willing to share his thoughts. However, when the topic of the Hema Committee report was brought up, the superstar’s reaction was one of surprise and confusion.
In a video shared by Polimer News, the journalist asked Rajinikanth whether a similar committee should be established in the Tamil film industry to investigate issues of exploitation. The actor initially appeared confused, asking the reporter to repeat the question. When the mention of the “Hema Committee in Malayalam cinema” was clarified, Rajinikanth simply responded with a smile, saying, “I don’t know anything about it. Sorry.” After this brief interaction, he quickly moved on to answer another question before departing.
Calls for Transparency in the Telugu Film Industry
The issue of sexual harassment in the film industry is not confined to Mollywood. Recently, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, along with the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), urged the Telangana government to release a similar report for the Telugu film industry. Although the WCC submitted its report two years ago, the government has yet to take action on their request.
