As Indian cricket sensation Shubman Gill turns 25, it’s a moment to celebrate his incredible journey from a young boy in Fazilka, Punjab, to one of Team India’s brightest stars. Born on September 8, 1999, Gill made a name for himself early by becoming the Player of the Tournament in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. His consistent performances earned him a spot in Team India in 2019, and since then, he’s been unstoppable. Currently, the vice-captain of India’s ODI and T20 teams, Gill has already set some impressive records that are not easy to break. Here’s a closer look at five of them:

    1. Fastest to 2000 ODI Runs

Gill holds the world record for reaching 2000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) faster than anyone else. He achieved this milestone in just 38 innings, surpassing the previous record held by South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who did it in 40 innings. This feat reflects his consistent performance in the limited-overs format.

    2. Highest T20I Score for India

In February 2023, Gill etched his name in the record books by scoring 126* against New Zealand in a T20 International. This remarkable innings remains the highest individual score by an Indian in T20Is, helping India secure an easy victory in Ahmedabad.

    3. Youngest to Hit an ODI Double Century

In January 2023, Gill became the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. At just 23 years and 132 days old, he smashed 208 runs against New Zealand. His fearless batting has made him one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.

    4. Youngest to Score Centuries in All Formats

Gill has already scored centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals, making him the youngest cricketer to achieve this feat. So far, only 23 players worldwide have managed to score hundreds in all three formats, and Gill is the youngest among them, solidifying his place in cricket history.

    5. Youngest IPL Orange Cap Winner

During the 2023 IPL season, Shubman Gill was in red-hot form, amassing a staggering 890 runs in 17 innings. His prolific run-scoring earned him the prestigious Orange Cap, awarded to the player with the most runs in a season. At 23, he became the youngest player ever to win the Orange Cap in IPL history.
