Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s legendary off-spinner, is known for his ability to trouble the best batsmen across the world. With over 500 wickets in his Test career, Ashwin has played a pivotal role in numerous victories for India. However, fans have always been curious to know how successful he has been against two of India’s greatest batsmen—Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma—in practice sessions. Recently, Ashwin himself addressed this question in an interview, revealing some interesting insights.

Ashwin’s Success Against Kohli and Rohit in Nets

During an interview with Vimal Kumar on YouTube, Ashwin was asked whether he has managed to get the better of Virat and Rohit in the nets. Without hesitation, Ashwin shared that he has dismissed both of these batting legends many times in practice sessions. He even recalled moments when those present behind the nets applauded him for getting the two out.

This revelation has sparked quite a buzz among fans, as many were unaware that Ashwin had this level of success against two of the world’s best batsmen. Some fans were quick to appreciate Ashwin’s candor, while others found it hard to believe that even Virat and Rohit have faced difficulties against the Indian spinner in the nets.

Joe Root and Steve Smith Are Bigger Challenges for Ashwin

In the same interview, Ashwin was asked about the batsmen who have given him the toughest time in international cricket. While many might expect Kohli or Rohit to be mentioned, Ashwin instead named Joe Root from England and Steve Smith from Australia as the two batsmen who have played him the best.

Ashwin acknowledged that these two cricketers have consistently managed to perform well against him over the years. He also mentioned that Usman Khawaja, the Australian opener, impressed him with his batting during the recent series.

    Foreign Batsmen Over Indian Stars?

Ashwin’s honest opinions didn’t stop there. When asked which batsman he believed had the best cover drive, fans were expecting him to name Virat Kohli, who is often praised for his elegant cover drives. However, Ashwin surprised everyone by naming former England opener Marcus Trescothick instead.

Similarly, when asked about the best pull shot, many thought he would point to Rohit Sharma, whose pull shots are legendary. But Ashwin again surprised fans by naming former Australian captain Ricky Ponting as the best pull shot player in his view.

A Peek Behind the Scenes of Indian Cricket

These insights from Ashwin offer a rare glimpse into what goes on during Team India’s practice sessions and the level of competition within the squad. Ashwin’s revelations about dismissing Virat and Rohit in the nets, as well as his praise for foreign players, highlight his honest and humble approach to the game.

While fans may always debate whether Kohli or Rohit are the best in certain aspects, it’s fascinating to hear Ashwin’s perspective from someone who regularly competes against them. His openness about such experiences adds a unique layer to the ongoing discussions around Indian cricket.
