In an unexpected turn of events, Hockey India’s official ‘X’ account (formerly Twitter) was hacked just a day after the Indian team’s thrilling 1-0 win against China in the Asian Champions Trophy final. The hack occurred on September 18th at around 11:30 PM, less than 24 hours after India secured the championship in a hard-fought battle.

Hackers Attempt Cryptocurrency Fraud Using Hockey India’s Account

The hackers took control of Hockey India’s social media account and posted a link related to cryptocurrency. The suspicious post indicated that the account was compromised, with the hackers claiming they had hacked it to “publish a token address and profit from it”. They urged users to engage with the link, a common scam tactic often used by cybercriminals in such incidents.

Team India Returns Victorious After Defeating China

Meanwhile, the Indian men’s hockey team returned home on September 19th, landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Their 1-0 victory over China in the final added another feather to their cap, marking India’s fifth win in the Asian Champions Trophy.

The match, held in China, was anything but easy. Though Indian fans had hoped for a comfortable win, China’s defense was formidable, holding India scoreless for 50 minutes. It was in the 51st minute that Jugraj Singh broke the deadlock, scoring the only goal that sealed India’s victory.

India’s Glorious History in the Asian Champions Trophy

India’s dominance in the Asian Champions Trophy is impressive. The tournament, which began in 2011, saw India clinch the title in its inaugural edition. The Indian team went on to win again in 2016, share the title with Pakistan in 2018, and became champions for the fourth time in 2023. With this recent win, India successfully defended the title, adding to their glorious history in the tournament.
