MNS Opposes Release of Fawad Khan’s Film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ in India, Threatens Action

The release of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s blockbuster film The Legend of Maula Jatt in India has sparked controversy, with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) taking a strong stance against the screening. The movie is scheduled to hit Indian theatres on October 2, 2024, but MNS leaders have warned theatre owners and raised serious objections.

MNS Leader Threatens to Block Release

MNS chief Raj Thackeray has voiced his opposition, declaring that his party will not allow The Legend of Maula Jatt to release in Maharashtra under any circumstances. In a statement shared in Marathi, Thackeray questioned why Pakistani films are being permitted to release in India, given the ongoing tensions between the two countries.

Thackeray’s post read, “In cases related to Pakistan, we cannot allow films or artists from the neighboring country to have a platform here. The government should not just stop its release in Maharashtra but across India.”

Hands and Legs Will Be Broken, Says MNS Leader

MNS leader Amey Khopkar took the opposition a step further by threatening any Pakistani artist promoting the film in India. He issued a stern warning, saying, “If any Pakistani artist comes to India to promote their film, we will break their hands and legs.”

Khopkar justified the protest by citing Pakistan’s history of attacks on India, leading to the loss of lives, including Indian soldiers and police officers. He questioned why India should embrace Pakistani talent when there are plenty of talented Indian artists available.

    The Reason Behind the Backlash

The controversy stems from long-standing political and military tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly in light of cross-border conflicts. MNS, known for its strong nationalist views, has consistently opposed Pakistani artists working in India. The party’s stand against The Legend of Maula Jatt is not surprising, but it has reignited the debate on cultural exchange between the two nations.

    Theatre Owners Warned

In his post, Thackeray specifically warned theatre owners, stating that they could face trouble if they screen the film. His message implied that any attempt to show the film could lead to protests or other aggressive actions from the party.

Despite the strong resistance from MNS, there has been no official statement from Fawad Khan or the makers of The Legend of Maula Jatt regarding the controversy. Whether the film will release as scheduled remains uncertain, especially in Maharashtra.
