Team India’s recent Test victory against Bangladesh in Kanpur was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite the rain shortening the game to just two and a half days, India managed to clinch the series 2-0. A key player behind this win was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who emerged as the top batsman of the series by scoring a brilliant 189 runs. His outstanding performance not only contributed to the team’s victory but also saw him break a 45-year-old Indian cricket record.

    Jaiswal’s Record-Breaking Performance

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s consistent form in the Kanpur Test added to his already impressive career. He scored half-centuries in both innings, maintaining an average of 47.25 throughout the series. His ability to score freely in tough conditions made him the standout performer for India.

However, it was during the second innings when Jaiswal broke a significant record. By scoring his eighth 50+ run innings in a domestic Test match this year, he surpassed the long-standing record of Gundappa Vishwanath, who had managed seven such innings in 1979. Players like Sehwag, Pujara, and KL Rahul also reached this milestone but were left behind by Jaiswal, who now stands as the record holder.

    Player of the Match Award

Jaiswal was rightly awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance in the Kanpur Test. In his post-match interview, he revealed that his primary focus was always on contributing to the team. He also shared that the conditions in Kanpur were quite different compared to his earlier experiences, but advice from Rohit Sharma helped him play freely and confidently.

A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

Yashasvi Jaiswal has quickly established himself as one of India’s most promising young talents. In just 11 matches, he has amassed 1217 runs at an impressive average of over 64. With 3 centuries and 7 half-centuries to his name, Jaiswal’s performance has been nothing short of exceptional in 2024. He has already scored 929 runs this year with an average of 66.35 and a strike rate above 80.

While his most notable performances have come on home soil, Jaiswal has also delivered on tours. He scored 266 runs in the West Indies and had a standout series against England at home. Though he struggled in South Africa, many believe that it’s only a matter of time before Jaiswal proves himself on fast and challenging pitches abroad.
