The Multan Test between Pakistan and England is shaping up to make cricket history, and not in Pakistan’s favor. After four days of intense play, England is on the verge of handing Pakistan an embarrassing defeat, something never before witnessed in the 147-year history of Test cricket. Despite a massive first-innings score from Pakistan, the visitors are close to securing a historic win.

This would be the first time in the history of Test cricket that a team scoring more than 500 runs in its first innings still ends up losing the match.

    Pakistan’s Strong Start

The match started off positively for Pakistan as their top-order batsmen made the most of a flat pitch. Captain Shan Masood, along with two other batsmen, posted centuries, propelling Pakistan to a commanding total of 556 runs. By the end of the second day, Pakistan looked in control, with many predicting a high-scoring draw.

But England had other plans. The English side came out swinging, with Harry Brook and Joe Root leading the charge. Brook’s historic triple century, along with Root’s remarkable double ton, pushed England’s first innings to a staggering 823 runs in just 150 overs.

    England’s Dominance Shifts the Game

England’s quick scoring left Pakistan with a deficit of 267 runs. As the match moved into its third and fourth days, the game shifted from a likely draw to a potential England victory. Pakistan’s second innings proved to be disastrous. By the end of Day 4, Pakistan was in deep trouble, having lost 6 wickets for just 152 runs, still trailing by 115 runs.

Shan Masood, Babar Azam, and the other top-order batsmen were back in the pavilion early, leaving the responsibility on Agha Salman and Aamir Jamal. The pair managed to build a partnership of 70 runs, saving Pakistan from an even worse collapse, but the match still hangs in the balance.

A Tough Final Day Awaits Pakistan

As the fifth and final day approaches, Pakistan’s chances of survival look slim. With only four wickets remaining and 115 runs still required to avoid an innings defeat, the pressure is on Salman and Jamal to pull off something special.

If Pakistan fails to save the game, they will become the first team in the history of Test cricket to lose after scoring over 500 runs in their first innings—a record no team would want to hold. This potential defeat would also mark Pakistan’s 11th consecutive Test without a win on home soil, adding to their recent struggles.

A Historic Moment in the Making

As cricket fans around the world await the conclusion of this thrilling match, one thing is certain: history will be made. Whether it’s a heroic comeback by Pakistan or England securing an unprecedented victory, this Multan Test will be remembered for years to come.

Now, all eyes are on Agha Salman and Aamir Jamal to see if they can pull off a miracle and save Pakistan from a crushing defeat.
