Rohit Shetty, known for his action-packed films, recently recalled a frightening accident that took place on the set of his hit film Chennai Express in 2012. While the director is now gearing up for the release of Singham Again, this memory highlights the risks involved in filmmaking, especially during stunts.
The incident occurred while preparing for a high-stakes stunt scene involving an imported car. Shetty explained that before performing stunts, his team usually drains the fuel tanks of vehicles to avoid accidents. However, during this particular shoot, things didn’t go as planned.
Petrol Leak Ignites Car on Set
Rohit Shetty revealed that the trouble began when petrol leaked from a reserve tank that the crew hadn’t noticed. Some of the fuel spilled onto the car’s chassis, and after the stunt was completed, an unexpected spark ignited the fire. Within moments, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Driver Trapped Inside the Burning Car
The situation took a dangerous turn as the driver, Shankar Anna, was still inside the car, which had flipped upside down during the stunt. Shetty described how his driver got stuck in the vehicle while the flames spread rapidly. Fortunately, the film set was equipped with a fire brigade, which responded quickly.
Firefighters smashed the car’s windows and managed to pull Shankar Anna out just in time. Although the driver’s hands were burnt in the accident, prompt medical care ensured he recovered.
‘Singham Again’ to Hit Screens on November 1
On the work front, Rohit Shetty is all set to release Singham Again on November 1, marking another entry into his popular Cop Universe. Starring Ajay Devgn, the film will also feature Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, and Akshay Kumar. This time, Ajay Devgn will reprise his iconic role as Bajirao Singham, and fans are excited to see Deepika as a cop for the first time.
The film will face competition at the box office from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, adding to the excitement for moviegoers in the Diwali season.
