“I spent time figuring out what makes it work when it really works,” Odom shared. While analyzing the song’s strengths, he also reviewed some of the less successful performances. Aware of how challenging the anthem can be, he chose not to focus too much on these, saying he didn’t want to “draw any bad luck.”

Singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” is no easy task, as its complex range has tripped up even seasoned performers. “It’s just a challenging song,” Odom admitted, noting how the tune can reveal even a skilled singer’s vulnerabilities.
