Hima Das, fondly known as the ‘Dhing Express,’ is celebrating her 24th birthday today, 9th January. This extraordinary athlete from Assam has made India proud with her remarkable achievements in track and field, particularly in the 400-meter race. Overcoming numerous challenges, Hima has etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history.

Early Life and Rise to Stardom

Born on 9th January 2000 in Nagaon district, Assam, Hima’s journey from the village streets to international fame is inspiring. It was her childhood coach, Nipun Das, who saw her potential and convinced her family to let her train in Guwahati. This move marked the beginning of Hima’s ascent in athletics.

    Making History at 18

At just 18 years old, Hima Das grabbed headlines by winning a gold medal in the Under-20 World Championships in the 400 meters. Her performance in this event was a testament to her grit and determination. She clocked 51.46 seconds to clinch the gold, a remarkable feat that brought her into the spotlight.

    Record-Breaking Performances

Hima Das continued to shine by improving her time to 51.13 seconds at the National Inter-State Championships in Guwahati in 2020. Her personal best, however, is an impressive 50.79 seconds, achieved during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, where she won a silver medal.

    A Golden Streak in Europe

In 2019, Hima Das made headlines again by securing seven gold medals in two months on the European Circuit Tour and World Championships. Out of these, five were in the 200 meters, and two were in the 400 meters. This incredible run of victories solidified her reputation as one of India’s brightest athletic stars.

    Asian Games Glory

Hima Das’s performance at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games was equally spectacular. She won two gold medals and a silver, breaking the Indian national record twice during the event. Her achievements at the Asian Games were a significant milestone in her career, showcasing her versatility and strength as a sprinter.
