The Indian men’s hockey team finally broke their string of losses by defeating Belgium 4-3 in a close and exciting match during the European leg of the FIH Pro League 2024–25. With this win, India ended their campaign on a positive note, finishing in eighth place, 14 points ahead of Ireland.
India had suffered seven straight defeats before this match, and the team needed this victory to regain confidence. Sukhjeet Singh, who celebrated his 100th international match, played a key role by scoring two goals. Amit Rohidas and captain Harmanpreet Singh added one goal each, helping India cross the finish line in style.

The match became more intense in the third quarter. Tibbe Stockbroekx gave Belgium the lead again in the 34th minute, but India hit back quickly. In the very next minute, Sukhjeet struck again, this time with a brilliant field goal assisted by Abhishek.
India then took the lead for the first time in the 36th minute when Amit Rohidas converted a penalty corner with a powerful shot. However, Belgium were not ready to give up. In the 41st minute, they earned a penalty corner and Hugo Labouchere scored his first international goal to level the score 3-3.
Harmanpreet Singh Seals the Victory
With just two minutes left on the clock, India pushed into Belgium’s circle again. After a video referral, the umpire awarded India a penalty stroke. Captain Harmanpreet Singh stepped up and calmly converted the opportunity in the 59th minute, securing the long-awaited victory.

This match was also special for Dilpreet Singh and Sukhjeet Singh, as both players completed 100 international matches for India. Their presence added experience and energy to the team during this crucial game.
