The ICC has released the latest Test player rankings, and Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant has made a big impact with his outstanding performance in the first Test against England at Leeds. The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed centuries in both innings, helping him reach a new milestone in his career.
Pant moved up one spot to 7th in the latest Test batsmen rankings and now holds 801 rating points — the highest ever for an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests. No other Indian behind the stumps has ever crossed the 800-mark before. His twin centuries — 134 in the first innings and 118 in the second — made him only the second wicketkeeper in Test history to hit centuries in both innings of the same match. Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower was the first to do so. Pant also became the seventh Indian to achieve this rare feat.
Shubman Gill and Ben Ducket Rise in Rankings
India’s captain Shubman Gill and England’s opener Ben Ducket also made significant jumps. Both players climbed five spots in the ICC Test batting rankings. Gill, who scored 147 runs in the first innings of the Leeds Test, now holds the 20th position. His century was crucial for India in setting a strong total.
Ben Ducket also delivered an impressive performance for England. He scored a half-century in the first innings and followed it with a brilliant 149 in the second, leading England’s chase of 371 runs. His match-winning knock earned him the Player of the Match award and helped him move to the 8th spot in the rankings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Holds Position, Root Leads the Pack
Despite hitting a century in the Leeds Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal remains in the 4th spot. The top three spots are held by England’s Joe Root (889 points), Harry Brook (874 points), and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson (867 points). Root continues to dominate the list after scoring an unbeaten half-century and a 28-run knock in the same match.
England batters Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith have also shown improvement in the latest list. With so many players delivering strong performances, the competition in the top 10 remains fierce.
Bumrah Still No.1 in Test Bowling Rankings
In the bowling rankings, India’s pace star Jasprit Bumrah continues to hold the top spot with 907 rating points. He took five wickets in England’s first innings at Leeds, showcasing his skill once again. Although he went wicketless in the second innings, his overall impact keeps him ahead of other bowlers.
Ben Stokes Climbs in All-Rounder Rankings
England’s captain Ben Stokes has improved his position in the Test all-rounders list. He jumped three places and now sits at the 5th spot. Stokes played a useful role in the Leeds Test, scoring 20 and 33 runs across two innings and picking up five wickets overall.
With such performances, the ICC rankings keep shifting, reflecting the hard work and form of the world’s best Test players.
