In a shocking turn of events, Malayalam actor and producer Baburaj finds himself embroiled in a serious controversy after a junior artist accused him of sexual harassment. The incident allegedly took place at the actor’s residence in Aluva, where the woman claims she was lured under the pretext of discussing a role in a film.
The Accusations
According to the woman, who also works as an actress, she was invited to Baburaj’s home with the assurance that the film’s director, scriptwriter, and production controller would be present. However, upon arrival, she discovered that only Baburaj and his assistant were there. The actress alleges that after being shown to a room to rest, Baburaj later entered the room alone, using abusive language and sexually assaulting her.
In her statement, the actress described the ordeal, stating, “When I reached his house, only Baburaj and his assistant were there. He gave me a room to rest, but after a while, he knocked on the door. When I opened it, he entered, closed the door, and then used some abusive words before sexually abusing me.” She further added that due to Baburaj’s fame, she feared that no one would support her if she reported the incident at the time.
Fear of Repercussions in the Film Industry
The actress also highlighted a broader issue within the film industry, alleging that such incidents of abuse are not uncommon. She mentioned that women are often pressured to “compromise” for roles. Despite initially not taking legal action due to fear of backlash, she later spoke to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Kochi, who advised her to file a complaint. He claimed that the actress making these accusations may have been working at his resort and is now trying to defame him. Baburaj also mentioned that he is a candidate for the post of General Secretary in the Malayalam Movie Artists Association (AMMA), suggesting that this could be an attempt by his opponents to tarnish his reputation.
