Veteran actress Aruna Irani, known for her work in over 500 films, recently made a surprising revelation about her experiences in the film industry. She shared how her once-close friend and Bollywood icon Rekha allegedly had her removed from major projects due to fears that Aruna’s acting might overshadow her on-screen presence.
Speaking in an interview with Lehren Retro, Aruna Irani recalled how Rekha’s insecurity affected her career, especially during the filming of the movie “Woman’s Woman Women.”
Scenes Removed and Later Entirely Replaced
Aruna shared that “Woman’s Woman Women” took nearly six years to complete due to production delays. During the early phase of filming, Aruna played a significant and central role. She said,
“Anyone would pray for a role like that. I had a strong character, and I was very proud of it.”
However, as the film progressed, she noticed her role being reduced. Aruna claimed that Rekha played a part in this. She said that Rekha didn’t allow the makers to highlight Aruna’s role because it was turning out too well.
Aruna said,
“Rekha ji did not let the role shine. She didn’t want people to say Aruna’s performance was better than hers.”
Rekha Allegedly Got Aruna Removed from Another Film Too
In another shocking moment, Aruna spoke about a film titled “Mangalsutra.” She had already signed the project and even received her signing amount. But later, she was removed without any proper reason. When she asked the film’s producer, she was told:
“Rekha ji never wanted you in the film.”
Aruna then confronted Rekha about the removal, and Rekha allegedly said:
“If you act too well in the role, I’ll look like the villain in comparison.”
Despite feeling hurt by this, Aruna maintained that they still share a friendly bond today. However, she admitted that such incidents did impact her career.
