Aamir, however, wasn’t convinced by this idea.
When he first discussed the climax with director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, Aamir pointed out that it didn’t make sense for the characters to run away, as it contradicted the very message of sacrifice and courage that the film stood for. Aamir questioned, “If these young men are inspired by Bhagat Singh and other freedom fighters, why would they run away after taking a stand? Shouldn’t they stay and face the consequences, just like Bhagat Singh did?”
Aamir’s Alternative Climax
Aamir suggested an alternative, rooted in the essence of the film’s message. His idea was that instead of trying to escape, the characters should make a final stand by occupying a TV station to broadcast their story to the nation. He felt this was a more fitting conclusion for a movie centered around activism and awakening. By taking over a media studio and going live, the characters could explain their reasons for their drastic actions, giving them a powerful voice to communicate their ideals to the world.
Mehra agreed with Aamir’s perspective, and the film’s climax was reworked accordingly. This change not only made the ending more powerful but also left an unforgettable mark on the audience. The revised climax struck a chord, making the film’s message of rebellion and justice more poignant and relatable.
