Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has found herself in a tough spot due to the unexpected delay in the release of her upcoming film Emergency. The movie, which was originally set to hit the screens on September 6, has now been postponed due to issues with the censor board and protests from the Sikh community. As a result, Kangana had to take a significant financial step to manage the situation – selling her prized Mumbai bungalow.

Bungalow Sold Due to Financial Losses from Emergency Delay

In a candid conversation with News18, Kangana revealed that she had no choice but to sell her bungalow to cover the financial losses incurred from the delay in Emergency’s release. She had invested a considerable amount of her personal wealth into the making of this film. With its postponement, she faced financial difficulties and had to make the difficult decision to sell her property to manage the setback.

Kangana said, “Naturally, my film had to be released. I have invested all my assets on it. Now that it has not been released, I am facing problems. Well, you use your assets in such times.” She further added that the bungalow had been sold for a reported Rs 32 crores.

Kangana Bought the Bungalow in 2017 for Rs 20.7 Crore

According to a report by Zapkey, Kangana had purchased the Bandra bungalow in September 2017 for Rs 20.7 crore. The property was later used as the office of her production company, Manikarnika Films. Interestingly, in December 2022, she took a loan of Rs 27 crore from ICICI Bank using the bungalow as collateral. The property spans 3,075 square feet and also includes a parking area of 565 square feet.

This is the same bungalow that made headlines in September 2020 when the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) partially demolished it, citing illegal construction. The demolition was halted midway by an order from the Bombay High Court. Kangana even filed a case against the BMC and initially demanded Rs 2 crore in compensation for the damages. However, she withdrew her demand in May 2023.

Postponement of Emergency Due to Sikh Community Protests

Emergency, which was set to release on September 6, faced a significant hurdle when several Sikh organizations raised objections regarding the representation of the Sikh community in the film. According to these organizations, the film contained misrepresentations that could lead to misinformation and tensions. Due to these protests, the release was postponed until further notice, pending clearance from the censor board.

The film, directed by and starring Kangana, is a political drama set during the 1975 Emergency in India, with Kangana portraying the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film features an ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman in prominent roles.

Legal Battles and Delays Add to Kangana’s Troubles

Aside from the protests, the production house, Zee Studio, had also approached the Mumbai High Court seeking a censor certificate to ensure the film’s release on the originally scheduled date. However, due to the ongoing controversies, the release has been pushed back indefinitely. The legal battles and financial challenges that have emerged as a result of these delays have only added to Kangana’s woes.

With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed, we are still waiting for the certification from censor board, new release date will be announced soon, thanks for your understanding and patience 🙏

This delay has caused a ripple effect in Kangana’s life, leading to the unfortunate sale of her bungalow, which had already been a source of trouble with the BMC demolition incident. Despite the setbacks, Kangana remains focused on ensuring the film’s eventual release. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates on Emergency, which promises to be a major release once the issues surrounding it are resolved.
