Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is once again in the spotlight, but this time it’s for an unfortunate reason. Her upcoming film Emergency, which has been surrounded by controversy, is now facing legal issues. The District Court of Chandigarh has issued a notice regarding the film after Advocate Ravinder Singh Bassi, former Bar Association President, filed a complaint. He claims that the movie portrays Sikhs in a negative light, damaging the community’s image.
Release Postponed Despite Approval from Censor Board
Emergency was initially scheduled for release on September 6 but was canceled just days before. Despite securing a certificate from the Censor Board, the film’s release was halted. Kangana, who has personally invested heavily in the project, revealed during an interview with News 18 that she had “put her personal property at stake for this film.” Reports suggest that Kangana had to sell her bungalow in Mumbai’s Pali Hill for Rs 32 crore to fund the project. The release date remains uncertain, adding to the film’s woes.
Court Hearing Set for December 5
The legal complaint, which follows earlier threats from some Sikh community members, alleges that the film makes “false accusations and tarnishes the image of Sikhs.” The court is set to hear the case on December 5, which could further delay the film’s release.
A Star-Studded Cast and Emotional Undertones
Directed and produced by Kangana herself, Emergency stars an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman. Notably, this will be the final film featuring the late Satish Kaushik, who passed away last year. Kangana plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, a portrayal that has already sparked debate.
