Famous producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, have landed in legal trouble. A case has been filed against both of them under the POCSO Act for allegedly showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of the web series Gandi Baat on ALT Balaji. According to reports, the series aired between February and April 2021, and the particular episode in question is no longer available on the platform.

    Objectionable Content Sparks Legal Action

A local resident from Borivali, Mumbai, complained to the MHB police station against Ekta Kapoor and her mother, accusing them of streaming obscene content featuring minors. The complainant also mentioned that certain scenes in the series disrespected religious figures and violated various laws, including the Information Technology Act 2000, the Women Prohibition Act 1986, and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003.

    What’s going on?

This is how @EktaaRKapoor ’s ALTT is showing obscene depiction of woman with ‘HINDU RELIGIOUS SYMBOL’ like 'SINDOOR AND BINDI' in its 'GANDI BAAT' WEBSERIES episode?

That’s why Ekta was awarded Padma Shri (for preserving Hindu culture)?

Court Decision Adds to the Controversy

This case follows a significant decision by the Supreme Court on September 27, 2024. The court ruled that publishing, viewing, or downloading obscene content related to children is a criminal offense, overturning a previous judgment by the Madras High Court, which had stated otherwise.

The police investigation is ongoing, and this case highlights the growing scrutiny of digital content, especially on OTT platforms. Ekta Kapoor’s ALT Balaji has faced controversies before, but this case under the POCSO Act has serious implications.
