IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Will Rohit Sharma Leave Mumbai Indians?

With the IPL 2025 mega auction just around the corner, the cricketing world is buzzing with speculations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already revealed the retention rules, allowing teams to retain up to six players. Amidst the excitement, a major question looms over Rohit Sharma’s future with Mumbai Indians (MI), the team he led to five IPL titles.

India’s ace spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has fueled the conversation with a bold statement regarding Rohit’s potential entry into the auction. According to Ashwin, if Rohit Sharma is released from MI, the bidding war could see Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings vying for him, with the bid potentially reaching a whopping ₹20 crores.

Ashwin’s Bold Prediction: ₹20 Crores for Rohit?

R Ashwin, known for his sharp cricketing insights, addressed the Rohit Sharma speculation on his YouTube channel. Responding to a fan query about the possibility of Rohit and Virat Kohli playing for the same team, Ashwin made a bold prediction. He said, “If RCB wants to go for Rohit Sharma, they will need to keep ₹20 crores aside. The ₹20 crore will disappear instantly if Rohit enters the auction.”

This statement has sent IPL fans into a frenzy. The idea of Rohit Sharma, with his vast captaincy experience and batting prowess, joining a team like RCB has opened up exciting possibilities.

Rohit Sharma’s Journey with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma’s IPL journey began with Deccan Chargers, but it was with Mumbai Indians that he truly made his mark. Joining MI in 2011, Rohit was appointed captain in 2013, and under his leadership, Mumbai Indians became the most successful franchise in IPL history. MI won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 under his captaincy.

However, in the recent seasons, Rohit’s future with MI has come under question. Last season, MI handed over the captaincy to Hardik Pandya, leaving Rohit’s role uncertain. If released by MI, Rohit could be a hot commodity in the IPL 2025 auction, with several teams eyeing him as a potential leader.

RCB’s Search for a New Captain

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the teams that could be in the market for a new captain. Faf du Plessis, who has led RCB in recent seasons, is now 40 years old, and it remains to be seen if the franchise will retain him for another season. With Virat Kohli having stepped down from the captaincy, RCB could be looking for an experienced leader to take over.

This is where the speculation around Rohit Sharma joining RCB gains traction. With Rohit’s proven track record as a captain, his arrival could provide the stability and leadership that RCB has been seeking.

    A New Chapter for Rohit?

As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, the cricketing world is waiting with bated breath to see how things unfold. Will Mumbai Indians retain their most successful captain, or will Rohit Sharma find a new home in the IPL, potentially with RCB or Punjab Kings?

With retention announcements expected soon, fans are eagerly awaiting the next move in what promises to be an exciting IPL auction season.
