Gautam Gambhir Visits Kamakhya Temple Amid Indian Cricket Team’s Break

Guwahati: With the Indian cricket team currently on a break after their recent tour of Sri Lanka, head coach Gautam Gambhir made a spiritual visit to the renowned Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. Known for its deep spiritual significance, the Kamakhya Temple is one of the 52 Shaktipeeths in India and is a revered site for devotees across the country.

Gautam Gambhir, wearing a red chunari over his shoulder and a long tilak on his forehead, offered prayers at the temple located on the Nilachal Hills. Photos of his visit have quickly gone viral, capturing the former cricketer’s deep devotion. This isn’t the first time Gambhir has sought blessings at Kamakhya; he had previously visited the temple during the IPL season.

The Kamakhya Temple, situated about 10 kilometers from Dispur, Assam’s capital, holds a special place in the hearts of worshippers, especially those who follow Tantra Vidya. It’s believed that visiting the temple three times can help one attain freedom from worldly attachments. The temple, a significant site for Aghoris and Tantrikas, is unique in its rituals. Unlike other temples, Kamakhya does not house an idol or a picture of the goddess. Instead, devotees worship a natural pond covered in flowers, which represents the goddess’s yoni (vagina). The temple is also famous for the belief that the goddess menstruates here, a phenomenon that draws pilgrims from all over.

Gambhir’s visit to the temple comes at a time when his role as the head coach of the Indian cricket team has been under the spotlight. Recently, South African cricket legend Jonty Rhodes praised Gambhir for his ability to make a significant impact wherever he goes. Rhodes highlighted Gambhir’s leadership skills, pointing out how he transformed the Kolkata Knight Riders after leaving Lucknow Super Giants. Rhodes stated, “Gambhir leaves his mark wherever he goes. We’ve seen how he made an immediate impact with Kolkata Knight Riders. He’s a focused individual who always listens to his heart. The Indian team will undoubtedly become stronger under his guidance.”

As Gambhir continues to balance his professional responsibilities with his personal beliefs, his visit to Kamakhya Temple serves as a reminder of the importance of spirituality in maintaining a balanced life.
