A high-level delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to visit Karachi to assess the preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. This visit, scheduled for Tuesday, will focus on evaluating the security and logistical arrangements made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This inspection comes amidst growing concerns over whether India’s cricket team will travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to political tensions.

ICC Officials to Assess Security and Tournament Readiness

The ICC team, consisting of top officials from the organisation, security, and production departments, will review the state of Pakistan’s cricket facilities. Among the delegation is ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson, who has visited Pakistan multiple times since April to assist in improving the stadium conditions.

The delegation will also look into the tentative tournament schedule submitted by the PCB. According to sources, this schedule includes plans for the Indian team to play all their matches in Lahore if they decide to participate. However, the possibility of India opting out remains a major concern.

PCB’s Efforts to Ensure India’s Participation Amid Political Uncertainty

The Pakistan Cricket Board is sparing no effort to ensure the successful hosting of the Champions Trophy. They have been heavily investing in renovating stadiums across the country, with crores of rupees spent to meet international standards. However, the biggest hurdle remains India’s participation, as the Indian government may not grant permission for their team to travel to Pakistan.

If India chooses not to play in Pakistan, alternative arrangements are being discussed. One possible solution being considered is hosting all of India’s matches at a neutral venue, outside of Pakistan. This would allow the tournament to continue without disruption, though it could impact Pakistan’s hosting rights.

Uncertainty Delays Champions Trophy Schedule Announcement

The uncertainty surrounding India’s involvement has delayed the official announcement of the Champions Trophy schedule. While PCB is pushing for India to play their matches in Lahore, nothing has been confirmed yet. If India’s team refuses to visit, further decisions will be made to ensure the tournament can proceed smoothly.

This situation remains fluid, and the outcome of the ICC delegation’s visit will likely determine the next steps for the tournament.
