Rubina Francis, a determined para shooter from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has made the nation proud by winning India’s fifth medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024. In the women’s 10m air pistol SH1 event, Rubina showcased her exceptional skills, earning a bronze medal and etching her name in history as the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal in pistol shooting.

    A Remarkable Achievement in Paris

Rubina’s journey to the podium was nothing short of extraordinary. Competing against some of the best shooters in the world, she maintained her composure and precision throughout the final. In Stage 1 of the competition, Rubina secured third place with a score of 97.6 points, impressing everyone with her consistency and focus. She continued her strong performance in Stage 2, ultimately finishing with a total of 211.1 points, which secured her the bronze medal.

Rubina Francis’s achievement is a testament to her unwavering determination and hard work. Born to humble beginnings, Rubina’s father, Simon Francis, works as a motor mechanic, and her mother, Sunita Francis, serves as a nurse in a maternity home in Jabalpur. Despite the financial challenges, Rubina’s family supported her passion for shooting, a decision that has now brought glory to the entire nation.

Before her Paralympic success, Rubina had already made a mark on the international stage. In 2023, she won a silver medal in the 10m air pistol event at the World Shooting Para Sports World Cup. She also claimed gold in the P-6 air pistol mixed team event at the same competition. These achievements laid the foundation for her historic performance at the Paris Paralympics.
