Sharad Sankla, who has become a household name as Abdul in the popular TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has a story that inspires many. His journey from a struggling actor to a well-loved character on one of India’s longest-running television shows is a testament to his perseverance and dedication.

    Early Life and Struggles

Sharad Sankla’s early life was marked by financial struggles. Growing up in poverty, he often faced hardships that many would find difficult to overcome. Despite his passion for acting, Sharad had to deal with long periods of unemployment. For eight years, he roamed the streets of Mumbai in search of work, facing rejection after rejection. However, his love for acting kept him going, and he never gave up on his dream.

    A Career in Bollywood

Before his big break in television, Sharad Sankla made his mark in Bollywood, albeit in small but memorable roles. His acting career began in 1983 with the film Durdesh, where he played the role of Charlie Chaplin, a character that would become a recurring theme in his early career. In Durdesh, he worked alongside legendary actors like Sharmila Tagore and Shashi Kapoor, but his role, though small, was the beginning of his journey in the film industry.

In 1990, Sharad appeared in the film Vansh, again portraying Charlie Chaplin. His dedication to the role was evident, even though he was paid only 50 rupees per day. Sharad’s talent soon caught the eye of filmmakers, leading to roles in some of Bollywood’s biggest hits. He played a student in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khiladi and had a small but significant role in Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster Baazigar. In Baazigar, Sharad once again donned the role of Charlie Chaplin, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

Sharad’s association with Shah Rukh Khan didn’t end there. He also appeared in the film Baadshah, another hit starring the Bollywood superstar. Additionally, he had a role in the film Mela, where he played a watchman, further adding to his list of film credits.

The Turning Point: Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Despite his work in films, it was television that gave Sharad Sankla his true identity. In 2008, he became a part of the TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, portraying the character of Abdul, the friendly shopkeeper who is loved by everyone in the fictional Gokuldham Society. This role changed Sharad’s life, bringing him fame and financial stability. Abdul’s character resonated with viewers, making Sharad a beloved figure in Indian households.

    Life Beyond Acting

While Sharad Sankla continues to be a part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, his success on the show has allowed him to venture into other areas as well. Today, he is a successful entrepreneur, running two restaurants in Mumbai. Despite his newfound success, Sharad remains humble and grateful for the love and recognition he has received from his fans. In interviews, he often expresses his joy at being known as Abdul rather than Sharad, a sign of how deeply the character has connected with the audience.

Sharad Sankla’s journey from a struggling actor to a successful television star and entrepreneur is a story of resilience and hard work. His portrayal of Abdul in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has not only brought him fame but also cemented his place in the hearts of millions of viewers. As he continues to entertain audiences, Sharad remains a shining example of how perseverance and passion can lead to success, no matter the odds.
