Rapper and singer Honey Singh, known for his controversial songs and bold statements, has now raised objections to veteran lyricist Gulzar’s popular track “Bidi Jalaile” from the 2006 film Omkara. In a recent interview with ETimes, Honey Singh expressed his views on the lyrics of the song, calling it “anti-women.”

Honey Singh’s Criticism of ‘Bidi Jalaile’

Addressing the backlash against his own songs, Honey Singh turned the spotlight on Gulzar’s lyrics, saying, “Gulzar sahab wrote ‘Bidi Jalaile jigar se piya, jigar mein badi aag hai.’ But where is a woman’s jigar (liver)? This is anti-women for me.” He questioned why only his songs were criticized when other tracks with similar themes have been celebrated for years.

Singh also took issue with another line from the same song, “Jubaan pe laga namak ishq ka,” pointing out that it involves mentioning a woman’s tongue. He expressed frustration, asking, “Why am I always wrong? Why am I the easy target?”

Thoughts on ‘Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai’

Honey Singh didn’t stop with Bidi Jalaile—he also shared his thoughts on another iconic song, “Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai,” from the movie Khalnayak. The rapper noted that despite such songs being part of the Bollywood industry for decades, his tracks are the ones facing criticism. He remarked, “I don’t portray women in a bad light, but songs like ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ existed long before mine. So why is only Honey Singh abused?”

Singh expressed his disappointment with being singled out for his lyrics while older, more legendary songs are seen differently by the public. According to him, it reflects a double standard in how people judge modern and classic songs.
