New Delhi: The journey of IAS Suhas LY is a testament to resilience, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Today, as a top-ranked IAS officer and a celebrated para-badminton player, Suhas stands tall among the nation’s heroes. But his path to success was anything but easy. From being denied admission to school multiple times to winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, Suhas’s story is one of overcoming adversity with grace and grit.

A Journey Marked by Rejection and Triumph

Suhas LY, who is now the Secretary and Director General of the Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal Department, was not always greeted with the respect and admiration he commands today. As a child, Suhas faced significant challenges due to his disability. In fact, he was denied admission to school not once, but three times. The same child who was refused an education has now become an inspiration to millions, proving that with determination, anything is possible.

Suhas recounted his journey during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his Paralympic victory. He shared how, despite the early rejections, he persevered, motivated by the words of his late father, who told him, “If you don’t get a seat today, then do something so that you become famous.” Suhas has certainly lived up to his father’s words, achieving success that few can claim.

A Stellar Career in Public Service and Sports

Suhas’s achievements are not limited to the badminton court. He is a 2007 batch IAS officer who has held several significant positions throughout his career. Currently serving as the Secretary and Director General of Youth Welfare, Suhas has made impactful contributions to the communities he serves. However, it is his dual career as a public servant and an athlete that sets him apart.

Suhas first made headlines in the sporting world when he clinched the silver medal in para-badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics. This victory was a culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice, as he balanced his demanding career with rigorous training. Suhas’s dedication to his sport is evident in his achievements, which include gold medals at the World Championship and the Para Asian Games, as well as a bronze at the same event. His outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2021.

Support from Family: The Backbone of Suhas’s Success

Behind every successful individual is a support system that believes in them, and for Suhas, this support comes from his family. Suhas is married to Ritu Suhas, a PCS officer serving as the ADM (Administration) in Ghaziabad. The couple is blessed with two children, five-year-old daughter Sanvi and two-year-old son Vivaan. Suhas often credits his family for his success, acknowledging that their unwavering support and understanding allowed him to pursue his dreams.

In interviews, Suhas has spoken about the sacrifices he has made, particularly in his personal life, to excel in sports. He dedicated much of his time outside of his job to badminton, training intensively for six months before the Paralympics. Throughout this journey, his family stood by him, encouraging him to achieve greater heights.

    A Legacy of Excellence

Suhas LY’s life is a shining example of what can be achieved with perseverance, dedication, and the right mindset. From being a child who faced rejection to becoming a decorated athlete and a respected IAS officer, Suhas has redefined success. His achievements in both public service and sports have made him a role model for countless individuals, proving that no obstacle is insurmountable if one is determined to overcome it.

As Suhas LY continues to serve his country and inspire others with his story, he remains a symbol of hope and resilience, showing that the limits we face are often the ones we place on ourselves. With his eyes set on future challenges, including the upcoming Paralympics, Suhas is sure to continue making headlines and making his country proud.
