India is gearing up to welcome tennis legend Andre Agassi, who is set to visit the country in January 2025. The former world number one tennis player will be in India to inaugurate the PWR (Pickleball World Ranking) DUPR Indian Tour and League, marking a significant moment in the promotion of pickleball in the nation.

Agassi’s Excitement for Pickleball in India

Andre Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion, shared his excitement about the upcoming visit in a video message directed at his Indian fans. “I am thrilled to be coming to India and to share the excitement of pickleball with everyone. The PWR DUPR Indian Tour and League is an incredible initiative, and I am looking forward to being a part of its success in India,” Agassi said.

The Rise of Pickleball: A New Sporting Sensation

Pickleball, a sport that combines elements of tennis and badminton, has been gaining popularity globally. Played with a perforated plastic ball and paddles on a smaller court, it offers an engaging and fast-paced experience that appeals to players of all ages. The PWR DUPR Indian Tour and League aims to bring this dynamic sport to the forefront in India, encouraging more people to participate and enjoy the game.

    Andre Agassi: A Tennis Icon

Andre Agassi is a name that resonates with tennis enthusiasts worldwide. His illustrious career includes two US Open titles, one French Open, one Wimbledon, and four Australian Open championships. Additionally, Agassi won a gold medal in men’s singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. His participation in the PWR DUPR Indian Tour and League is expected to inspire and attract a significant audience to the sport of pickleball.

    India Welcomes Agassi

Pranav Kohli, CEO and Founder of PWR, expressed his excitement about Agassi’s involvement, stating, “We are overjoyed to welcome Andre Agassi to India. His presence adds tremendous value to our efforts in promoting pickleball in the country. Agassi’s passion for sports and his legendary status will undoubtedly inspire many, and we are confident that this league will set new standards for pickleball in India.”

Vineet Jain, Managing Director of The Times Group, echoed Kohli’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of having a sports icon like Agassi associated with the league.

    Upcoming Events in Indian Pickleball

Before the main PWR DUPR Indian Tour and League kicks off, the PWR DUPR India Masters, including the Battle of the League: Stage 1, a PWR 700 event, will be held from October 24 to 27 in New Delhi. The winners of the Battle of the League in various categories will secure a spot at the DUPR Nationals in the US, with all travel and accommodation expenses covered by PWR. These events are supported by the Indian Pickleball Association, Asian Pickleball Association, and Global Pickleball Federation, ensuring a high standard of competition and organization.

A Growing Sport with Olympic Aspirations

Pickleball, which originated in the United States in 1965, was created by three elderly friends as a fun and inclusive game. The sport was named after one of the creators’ dogs, Pickles. Over the years, pickleball has grown in popularity, and there has been ongoing advocacy for its inclusion in the Olympic Games.

As India prepares to host Andre Agassi and the PWR DUPR Indian Tour and League, the excitement surrounding pickleball continues to build. This event promises to be a milestone in the sport’s journey in India, bringing together enthusiasts and new players alike to experience the thrill of pickleball.
